The first compliance deadline for ENERGY STAR
benchmarking for residential and non-residential buildings over 100,000 sq. ft. is April 1, 2013. The second compliance deadline for buildings over 100,000 sq. ft. (ENERGY STAR
scores will be published) and the first compliance deadline for buildings over 50,000 sq. ft. is April 1, 2014.
Private Buildings
- Requires private owners of residential and non-residential buildings with ≥ 50,000 sq. ft. to benchmark their buildings through ENERGY STAR
annually - Benchmarking includes water utility data and on-site renewables
- Residential spaces required to submit space use attributes
- New construction or major renovations require buildings to use the ENERGY STAR
Target Finder Tool (effective 1/1/2012) and be benchmarked annually
Public Buildings
- Annual benchmarking for buildings over 10,000 sq. ft. (194 in 2010)
- New construction or major upgrades are required to be designed to achieve 75 points on the ENERGY STAR
