Local Law 84: ENERGY STAR Benchmarking
Local Law 84 requires owners of “covered buildings” to benchmark their building’s energy use annually through the EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Tool annually. 2011 calendar year benchmark scores must be submitted by May 1, 2012.
A complete list of “covered buildings” can be found here: Covered Buildings List
- Buildings owners who do not comply with LL84’s submission requirements will be fined $500 per quarter.
- Energy Star Scores submitted in May 2012 will be made public.
- The benchmark process utilizes the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Tool, which compares a building’s performance to other similar buildings in the US.
