Christopher Cayten, LEED AP – Managing Director
Christopher Cayten has more than 10 years of experience in building sustainability, architecture and real estate development in the U.S. and around the world. In addition to overseeing CodeGreen’s operations and business development, Mr. Cayten manages energy efficiency, LEED and corporate sustainability projects for portfolios and Fortune 500 companies. Mr. Cayten also works with state agencies and local utilities to develop and maximize financial incentives for energy efficiency upgrades. He is currently working with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Long Term Planning to develop and communicate the goals of the City’s ambitious energy efficiency legislation, The Greener, Greater Buildings Plan. This plan aims to reduce the carbon footprint of New York City buildings by more than 10% by 2030. He is an active member of the Urban Green Council, and serves on the sustainability committees of REBNY and BOMA-NY. Mr. Cayten holds a BA in architecture from Yale University and a Masters of Architecture from the Yale School of Architecture.

 

John An, LEED AP BD+C, IESNA – Senior Director
John An brings over 15 years of professional and research experience in the building design and construction industry, with a focus on creating environmentally sustainable and highperformance built environments. An architect by training with a background in building physics, Mr. An translates creative design inspirations into meaningful and effective strategies. In addition to managing CodeGreen’s operations, Mr. An is the Director in charge of CodeGreen’s Deep Retrofit and Major Renovation Practice. Prior to joining CodeGreen, Mr. An worked at internationally recognized, award winning sustainable design consulting firms, developing and managing the analysis and daylight and building teams across multiple international offices. His portfolio of projects spans all project types and scales, including the LEED Gold Comcast Center in Philadelphia, the LEED Platinum Visionaire Condominium in Battery Park City, and LEED Platinum Citibank Flagship Branch in New York. Mr. An teaches courses on environmental sustainability, lighting and daylighting, and sustainable infrastructure planning at Columbia University, Parsons, and Cornell University. Mr. An holds a Bachelors of Architecture from Cornell University, and Masters and Doctorate degrees in building physics from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University.

Project Management

.    .. Patricia Lee, LEED AP, CEM – Director
Ms. Lee works as a Director for CodeGreen where she uses her background in sustainable architecture and construction management as a valuable resource for consulting on existing building, commercial interior, and new construction projects. She has managed the completion of over 10 million square feet of energy audits and commissioning work as well as over 30 LEED certification projects. She also heads CodeGreen’s software solutions division which includes CodeGreen’s free energy compliance mobile app and ProAct, a sustainability and energy efficiency tracking tool. Patricia Lee earned her BA in Urban Studies & Architecture with a minor in Environmental Science from Columbia University.

 

Chris Vander Weyden, LEED AP – Director
Chris Vander Weyden earned his diploma in Construction Engineering Technology in Canada. He has substantial construction management experience on large commercial, residential and institutional projects in Toronto, Canada. Since graduation, he has focused on project management and green design. Mr. Vander Weyden has considerable LEED experience and knowledge with the LEED programs for Existing Buildings (EB), New Construction (NC), and Core & Shell (CS) and has managed the LEED EB certification of over 15 million square feet of Class A office buildings. Additionally, he is currently involved in over 15 LEED projects (a variety of EB, NC and CS) where he actively manages all phases of the certification process. Mr. Vander Weyden is a Director for CodeGreen and an active member of the Urban Green Council (USGBC-NY).

 

Jessica Handy, LEED AP – Director of West Coast Operations
Jessica Handy earned her LEED AP in December 2008 while working as a property manager for a large commercial real estate firm in New York City. She was the Co-Chair of BOMA-NY’s Green Buildings Committee and in this capacity worked closely with the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability to help make NYC’s Greener, Greater laws as palatable as possible to property owners and managers. Ms. Handy joined CodeGreen Solutions in August 2011 as the Director of west coast operations. She attended the University of Washington in Seattle when recycling was just being established for single-family homes. As the self-appointed volunteer Recycling Coordinator for the Greek system, she sold 43 living groups – approx. 3500 students – on collaborating on a recycling program. Years later, her bins are still in place and the program is still going strong. In 1999, she moved to NYC to earn her M.S. in Security and Protection Management/Emergency Management.

 

Rebecca Schmidt, LEED AP ID+C – Senior Project Manager
With the support of a Fulbright grant, Rebecca Schmidt earned her M.A. in Architecture in Germany at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, focusing on high-performance building design. She earned her B.Arch at Carnegie Mellon University with a minor in Business Management. Ms. Schmidt has extensive experience working with energy-modeling simulation programs in the design, renovation and optimization of energy-efficient structures, meeting stringent energy standards, such as Passivhaus. During the 2007 Solar Decathlon in Washington DC, a competition to construct the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house, she served as the solar thermal specialist and financial manager. Her prior successful experience in architecture firms working to certify LEED-CI projects and create construction drawing sets has proven valuable in her current position as a Senior Project Manager at CodeGreen. Ms. Schmidt presently consults clients with existing buildings, new construction and commercial interiors projects on how to achieve LEED certification.

 

Harry Etra, LEED AP O+M – Senior Project Manager
Harry Etra earned his BA from Yale University and is a LEED AP: O&M (Operations & Maintenance). He has benchmarked more than 25 million square feet of property through the EPA’s Portfolio Manager and helped buildings achieve the Energy Star Label designation. As a member of CodeGreen’s corporate sustainability team, he has worked with clients to earn recognition through reporting programs such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and the EPA’s Green Power Partnership. Mr. Etra is an active member of the USGBC-NY’s Emerging Professionals group.

 

Melissa Wrolstad, LEED AP BD+C, ID+C, EIT – Senior Project Manager
Melissa Wrolstad earned her Masters of Systems Engineering and Bachelors of Engineering with focuses in Sustainability and Entrepreneurship from Cornell University. Ms. Wrolstad began her career at Woodard and Curran where she specialized in water engineering. She gained experience in small-scale wastewater treatment system design, water auditing, water conservation plan development and water infrastructure analysis. Ms. Wrolstad then switched gears and began pursuing her passion for green buildings as a Sustainability Project Manager at e4, inc. in Manhattan. Ms. Wrolstad has extensive experience in green buildings and has managed over 15 LEED projects in LEED-NC, LEED-CI, LEED-CS and LEED-CI Retail, including the first LEED-CI Retail v2009 Platinum certified project in NYC.

 

Sueaee Shin, LEED AP – Project Manager
Sueaee Shin earned her Master of Regional Planning from Cornell University with an emphasis on environmental sustainability and energy conservation. She holds a B.A. in Urban Studies from UC Berkeley with a minor in Chinese Language. After receiving her LEED GA in 2011, she worked at the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services Energy Management (DEM) as an energy and green building intern. At DEM, Ms. Shin worked with various tools to promote building energy efficiency including NYC local laws, cost-benefit analysis, data analysis tools, and project management software. Her previous experiences also involve an urban design internship at Calthorpe Associates and urban development research at Seoul Development Institute. As a Project Manager at CodeGreen, Ms. Shin works on the Energy Star benchmarking and LEED management teams.

 

Ross DiLiegro, CEM – Project Manager
Ross DiLiegro earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering and MS in Engineering Management at Syracuse University. While at Syracuse, he conducted in-depth energy audits of industrial facilities as part of a team at the U.S. Department of Energy Industrial Assessment Center. Following graduation, Mr. DiLiegro continued his energy efficiency work in New York City, providing energy efficiency consulting services for industrial and commercial facilities across New York State, under multiple NYSERDA incentive programs. Prior to joining CodeGreen, he served in a business development role for a leading renewable energy solutions provider. He has experience with LEED projects, energy procurement, and greenhouse gas emissions inventories, and is a Certified Energy Manager (C.E.M.). Currently, Mr. DiLiegro is a Sustainability Project Manager at CodeGreen and is also a member of AEE.

 

Jenelle Hoffman, LEED AP BD+C, GRI Certified – Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Analyst
Jenelle Hoffman earned her M.S. in Sustainability Management from Columbia University and her B. Arch from the University of Arizona with a minor in Business Administration. Prior to joining CodeGreen, Ms. Hoffman was involved in a number of unique projects including Design Build of affordable and sustainable low-income housing in Arizona, software product management and implementation, and a group thesis project that developed a report with recommendations for the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC) to transform its headquarters into the first Net Zero Energy Facility in Manhattan. Additionally, Ms. Hoffman gained valuable experience while working at the Urban Green Council and the NYC Department of Design & Construction (DDC). At DDC, she helped facilitate the management of Local Law 86 projects, administered multiple sustainable design project web updates, and worked in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of Long-term Planning & Sustainability for the recommendation of 12 Green Codes. As a Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Analyst, Ms. Hoffman works on the Energy Star benchmarking, LEED management, and marketing teams.

Energy Management

Edgar Bello, CEM, EBCP – Energy Manager
Edgar Bello earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics from Hofstra University. While at Hofstra, he performed over 150 industrial energy audits through the Department of Energy’s IAC program. He has performed dozens of commercial building audits and also managed a team of energy auditors of residential buildings under the federal Weatherization Program. Mr. Bello has substantial experience in the energy sector within demand response programs, renewable energy and Combined Heat and Power projects. Mr. Bello is an Existing Building Commissioning Professional. He is currently the Commissioning Agent for CodeGreen’s new office space and is excited to be closely involved in LEED projects.

 

Alex von Braun – Energy Manager
Alex von Braun offers a decade of experience finding creative solutions in energy efficiency for commercial, industrial, multi- and single-family residential, municipal, university, and healthcare clients. He earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and cut his energy-efficiency teeth at the Industrial Assessment Center there while pursuing graduate studies. He has extensive experience in energy modeling, co-developed the DOE’s Chilled Water System Assessment Tool, and developed algorithms to help clients optimize their maintenance programs. Before becoming an engineer he worked in financial services and in IT. His CEM is pending this spring.

 

Alex Hui, EIT, CEM, CDSM, CEA – Senior Engineer
Alex Hui earned his BS in Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. He has over 12 years of comprehensive technical, project management, sales support, and implementation experience in improving mechanical, electrical, and lighting system equipment for greater efficiency, control, retro-commissioning (RCx), and demand response savings. Mr. Hui is experienced in providing engineering and feasibility studies for commercial and industrial (C&I) clients nationwide. He has led and managed teams of contractors and engineers in performing investment grade energy audits, creating energy simulation models, and installing energy metering equipment at institutional, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential facilities. Mr. Hui is skilled at identifying ECMs and analyzing the savings calculations with payback potential in the production of recommendation reports to demand-side and utility clients. Mr. Hui is currently the Senior Engineer in the San Francisco office and a member of ASHRAE and AEE.

 

Christopher Powers, EBCP – Commissioning Engineer
Christopher Powers holds a BE degree in Electrical Engineering from SUNY Maritime College. He completed extensive work maintaining and operating the various systems on the school’s training ship, which included the high pressure steam plant, the turbo generator-powered electrical system, and the HVAC cooling systems. His past project experience includes work at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, the New York Museum of Natural History, and the Central New York Psychiatric Institute. He is an Existing Building Commissioning Professional. He is also a member of the Association of Energy Engineers and the Building Commissioning Association. Mr. Powers works on the CodeGreen commissioning team where he inspects, tests and reports on existing building systems to verify that they are in compliance with local laws.

 

Mark Girgis, EIT, CEM – Energy Engineer
Mark Girgis earned his BE in Chemical and Molecular Engineering from Stony Brook University with a specialization in Environmental Health Sciences. As a student at Stony Brook, he participated in environmental research studies and projects such as creating Biofuel and increasing the efficiency of different chemical processes. Mr. Girgis also gained experience in environmental technologies while working for a US Army & Defense contractor. He works on ASHRAE Energy Audits, LEED certification, and benchmarking. Mr. Girgis is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and is on his way to becoming a LEED AP.

 

Ryan McCabe – Energy Project Manager
Ryan McCabe earned his BS in Architectural/Building Engineering Technology from the New England Institute of Technology. Prior to joining CodeGreen, he performed dozens of energy audits, energy retrofits, and upgrade projects for the United States Post Office. At CodeGreen, Mr. McCabe works on the Energy Star benchmarking team, performs energy audits, and helps clients achieve their sustainability goals.

 

Hariharan Natarajan – Energy Project Manager
Hariharan Natarajan has a B. Arch from the University of Madras. He worked at several architecture and design firms before earning an MS. Arch in High Performance Buildings from the Georgia Institute of Technology. As a student, he designed a new method of renewable energy generation and used whole building energy simulation methods to independently achieve a 10% energy reduction for an existing LEED Gold facility. Mr. Natarajan uses his experience with building science research and energy modeling to inform his work at CodeGreen, where he oversees Energy Star Benchmarking for commercial buildings, assesses them for the Energy Star label and coordinates compliance with the Greener Greater Buildings Plan.

 

Alex Bronfman – Energy Efficiency Analyst
Alex Bronfman earned his BE in Engineering, Interdisciplinary, and ME in Mechanical Engineering from Cooper Union. Prior to joining CodeGreen, he worked as a researcher at Cooper Union’s Center for Innovation and Applied Technology, focusing on energy reclamation in buildings and utilities. In a research capacity, Mr. Bronfman has worked on the bottom heating of green roofs with waste steam condensate from building heating and cooling systems, inexpensive open-source control frameworks for green roof heating and watering, and most recently on an elevator efficiency study for New York City’s elevator fleet, in partnership with NYSERDA, ConEd and the private sector. He brings his passion for sustainable design and implementation in urban settings to the CodeGreen team, where he performs energy audits to help clients comply with the Greener Greater Buildings Plan.

 

Michael Dellaccio – Commissioning Engineer
Michael Dellaccio earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from New York Institute of Technology. His past experience includes energy auditing, retro-commisssioning, and new construction commissioning while working for a premier Engineering firm in NYC. Some of his work experience includes the commissioning of The National September 11th Memorial & Museum, New York Presbyterian Hospital, and the United Nations. He also holds a low pressure boiler certificate. Mr. Dellaccio works on the CodeGreen commissioning team where he inspects, tests and reports on existing building systems and new construction to verify that they are in compliance with local laws.

 

Christopher Kinlen – Commissioning Engineer
Christopher Kinlen earned his BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from SUNY Binghamton. Prior to joining CodeGreen, Chris worked for an engineering consulting firm, focusing primarily on new construction commissioning throughout New York and New Jersey. His past project experience includes work at the World Trade Center, Hess Corporation, and numerous projects on CUNY & SUNY campuses. Mr. Kinlen’s experience also includes performing retro-commissioning on multiple Air National Guard Bases across New York and Massachusetts. Mr. Kinlen works on the CodeGreen commissioning team where he is responsible for inspecting and testing new and existing building systems to verify they are in compliance with contract documents and local laws.

 

James McGlynn – Junior Commissioning Engineer
James McGlynn received his BE of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from The Cooper Union in 2010. He subsequently worked for an energy consulting firm in New Jersey and accumulated experience with LEED and ENERGYSTAR projects as well as a host of state level energy programs in New York and New Jersey. He also worked with the sustainability team at Boston University on developing a facility to be a model for campus wide energy efforts. Currently, he is contributing to existing building commissioning projects for CodeGreen.

 
Business Development

Matthew McCue – Director of Sales
Matthew McCue earned his Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University. Following Brandeis, he spent the past 15 years of his career in the technology sector, specializing in software and hardware sales. His extensive career includes prior work at EMC Corporation and Oracle Corporation. At EMC, Mr. McCue was a top performer focused on selling Storage Area Network Infrastructure and Business Continuity Software. While at Oracle, his focus was selling Service Oriented Architecture Integration, Business Intelligence and Work Flow tools. Mr. McCue uses his breadth of technology and services knowledge to drive the sales of ProAct software and CodeGreen’s consulting services.
