Charrette [shuh-ret]: an intense design meeting that discusses future work required to meet a specific team goal.
A Green Charrette is a three step process that begins the green conversion for existing buildings and new construction. The first step is a dynamic planning meeting with building ownership and management to discuss goals and scheduling. Secondly, an intensive collaborative design session is set up including representatives from as many of the core project teams as possible. Teams may include all or some of the following: owner, architect, general contractor, mechanical design team, mechanical engineer or design-build firm, energy modeler, landscape and civil teams, representatives from local utilities (if they have incentive programs or can provide technical assistance), and possibly specialists such as lighting designers and glazing specialists, all depending on the program requirements of the project. The final step is plan implementationit is at this point the project commences for green conversion.
